Anna Pszonka - Biography

About the Artist

Anna Pszonka is a Polish artist born in 1989.

Although she has moved frequently over the years, she has come to feel at home in Silesia, Poland, where she has lived for the past few years. Without a permanent studio, she paints in her own living space.

Painting has been her passion for as long as she can remember, yet her artistic journey has never followed a straightforward path. Her formal art education did not quite align with the direction she wished to pursue or the ambitions she held for her own artistic practice.

For a time, she worked in the profession for which she had trained, while quietly nurturing the desire to devote herself entirely to painting. Alongside her professional career, she continued to paint and gradually began selling her work through art auctions in Poland.

Although circumstances eventually led her to step away from her artistic practice for a period, she considers 2026 a year of return — a renewed commitment to painting and to pursuing her aspiration of becoming a professional artist.

A defining moment in her artistic development came after she had completed her formal studies, when she discovered the work and teachings of Richard Schmid. His approach to painting has since become an important foundation for her ongoing self-education and artistic growth. She continues to study his principles while drawing inspiration from the work and practices of other artists she admires.

Her work moves between realism and impressionistic realism. Working primarily in oil, she is also dedicated to exploring and refining her skills in watercolor and pastel.

Although she paints in the intimacy of her home, the inspiration for her work is rooted in the outdoors — in direct observation, lived experience, and a personal connection with what she observes. Birds have been her favorite subject for many years: creatures with whom she feels an inexplicable affinity. Yet her interests extend far beyond them.

Rather than aiming for a literal representation of her subjects, she seeks to convey her own experience of them. Sometimes, a subject becomes a means of expressing a particular mood, emotion, or idea beyond its immediate appearance. At other times, it is simply the appeal of a form, the quality of light, or the relationship between colors that draws her to paint. Her work reflects both a personal interpretation of the world around her and the simple desire to paint what she sees.
